To help support Climate Denial Crock of the Week
The 2009 ice melt season has just been completed at the northern polar cap, and observations confirm that the arctic ocean ice cover is continuing a steady decline.
The last three melt seasons represent the 3 lowest summer ice areas in the satellite record.
Satellite measurements of total summer ice surface have been on a downward slope for 3 decades. In 2007, ice area suffered a spectacular and unpredicted
slump. In the last 2 years, summer expanse rebounded from the catastrophic collapse, to
mere precipitous decline.
To help support Climate Denial Crock of the Week
I'm remixing a number of the Climate Denial Crock of the Week videos, in order to address some complaints people have had.
Number one, my sound mixing and quality have been poor, and I've gotten some better equipment and more experience, so I can make them a lot easier to listen to.
Number two, people have asked for related URLs and sites they can go to, in order to follow up on arguments presented in the video, so I am doing that here.
The first-up remix is my debunking of the perennial denier favorite, 'There's Global Warming on Mars", one of my favorites for content, and biggest embarrassments for sound. Here are the supporting links.

PZ Myers completely eviscerates his opposition Geoffrey Simmons in this classic debate. This Simmonds guy clearly knows bugger all regarding evolution but writes books about it. Can we expect anything else from the Discovery Institute? I suggest that the DI send the fitness guru Richard Simmonds next time. Make sure you check out the classic bait and switch just prior to the debate which results in Simmonds not having to present any positive evidence for Intelligent Design. This is becoming a common switch as they clearly do not want to debate the issue. I was going to upload the audio only but found that nethius had put together some nice visuals. Check him out here,
PZ Myers, the author of arguably the most popular science blog (Pharyngula) and I got together in mid-sept 2010 to have a bit of a chat.
This is part 1 of the chat.

UCL Lunch Hour Lecture: Stabilising the global population: Where next for the Millennium Development Goals for health and nutrition?
Professor Anthony Costello (Institute of Global Health)
(please note the sound improves after the first 30 seconds)
In many poor countries the Millennium Development Goals for improvements in nutrition and health, especially of mothers and children, will not be met by the target date of 2015. This talk will review progress towards these targets and consider critical obstacles to success. New strategies will be considered to improve nutrition and to accelerate reductions in death and fertility rates so that the global population will be stabilised by mid-century.
University of Cambridge professor Paul Gilding and Post Carbon Institute Senior Fellow Richard Heinberg discuss with Climate One whether or not the government should be involved in regulating and making change in the economy.
Paul Gilding, Professor, University of Cambridge Program for Sustainability Leadership, and author, The Great Disruption.
Richard Heinberg, Senior Fellow, Post Carbon Institute, and author, The End of Growth.
Recorded: November 7, 2011

Richard Heinberg propose a startling diagnosis: humanity has reached a fundamental turning point in its economic history. The expansionary trajectory of industrial civilization is colliding with non-negotiable natural limits.
** Please understand that we fit all we could into a five minute video. Yes, there are many issues and nuances left out. You'll find most addressed in the book from which this material was excerpted: http://www.endofgrowth.com ***
"Why have mainstream economists ignored environmental limits for so long? If Heinberg is right, they will have much explaining to do." -- LESTER BROWN, Founder Earth Policy Institute
"Heinberg shows how peak oil, peak water, peak food, etc. lead not only to the end of growth, but to the beginning of a new era of progress without growth." -- HERMAN E. DALY, Professor Emeritus, School of Public Policy, University of Maryland
"By the time you finish Heinberg's book, you will have 2 conclusions: This is the end of economic growth and it is our problem, not our childrens'. It's time to get ready. This book is the place to start." -- PAUL GILDING -- Former head of Greenpeace International
"Richard has rung the bell on the limits to growth. Our shift from quantity of consumption to quality of life is the great challenge of our generation. Frightening...but ultimately freeing." -- JOHN FULLERTON - President and Founder, Capital Institute

"...internal documents acquired by ThinkProgress Green reveal that the Heartland Institute, a right-wing think tank funded by the Koch brothers, Microsoft, and other top corporations, is planning to develop a "global warming curriculum" for elementary schoolchildren that presents climate science as "a major scientific controversy"...".* Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur discuss on The Young Turks.
