"A mass photo event" outside New Scotland Yard in response to a part of the 'Counter-Terrorism Act'. From 16th February 2009, anyone taking a photograph of a police officer could be deemed to have committed a criminal offence. That is because of a new law - Section 76 of the Counter Terrorism Act - which has come into force. It permits the arrest of anyone found "eliciting, publishing or communicating information" relating to members of the armed forces, intelligence services and police officers, which is "likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism". That means anyone taking a picture of one of those people could face a fine or a prison sentence of up to 10 years, if a link to terrorism is proved. The law has angered photographers, both professional and amateur, who fear it could exacerbate the harassment they already sometimes face. I went to help bring down the Berlin wall !!
The Berlin wall in in '89 was being torn apart in an avalanche of tiny of bits an pieces.... I felt that this was 'history in the making' and rather that watch it unfold on TV, I wanted a front row seat. So my friend Ben and I resolved to drive to Berlin in an old Renault that very nearly didn't make it, That Christmas we gave out little pieces of Berlin Wall, symbols we naively thought were of freedom from totalitarianism, ... At the time we could not have foreseen that the global 'totalitarian tiptoe' would take 'baby steps' towards the domination of the media, the money,resources, the armed services, and our freedom of speech. And You watch the propaganda on the BBC 24 about the 'terrorists', every day they think of some new way to shock you...... humiliate you with tazers and shock batons and fake 'terrorist sieges', You know the enemy is not Islam or Iraq and these poor abused and oppressed citizens are all just people like you and me..... we are all the same, and every effort to divide us,to pigeon hole us, to marginalize us is at the root is just yet another attempt to control us by the age old divide and rule technique. Personally I want out. I want out of the whole heaving mess, all the jostling and dirty grunting hateful noise and the images being burnt into my brain through the media, the drooling and spitting mouthpiece of this hateful 'people hating' machine. And so I've got rid of my TV, and I'm crafting a new life a day at a time. In spite of this huge lie that deep down I know is untrue. I feel as long as I dont harm, hurt or offend anyone I can do what I like with my life, I feel that essentially we are all the same, almost all of us are gentle loving people, however at some level some of us are in shock, this makes some of us act in a way that is not our natural state, This is a reaction to the people who want to own us and control us but We don't need to fight these people we just need to tune them out. Our response to Ken Burn's new WWII series: "Day of Infamy" Much has been made of Ken Burns going around interviewing WWII veterans. It is a good idea, because after all, these old timers are dying off at the rate of thousands every month. But the PBS series missed a few important points and so Indymedia has to pick up the slack, as usual. In this interview with a WWII Disabled American Veteran, we find out that the main Pearl Harbor newspaper published a banner headline on the top of the front page of the paper a week before the so-called "sneak attack" that read "Japanese may strike over weekend!" As O'Kelly McClusky holds up a copy of the newspaper for the camera, he tells how the US intentionally sacrificed their old, obsolete ships, along with 3,000 sailors, to change public opinion about getting into the war with Japan, and how he went from gung-ho to disillusioned. This piece was originally produced as a critique of the Hollywood movie "Pearl Harbor," and uses fair use footage to review that film. As December 7th nears, and with all the attention generated by the Ken Burns series, it only seemed right to pull our piece out of the archives and run it again. Hey, Ken Burns, we did it first, and we told people something they might not know. Additionally, with all the fear of another "false flag" incident to spur our nation into war with Iran, it seems quite appropriate to study exactly how we got into past wars.
