Forests are the "lungs of the earth" in that they release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, reducing greenhouse gases that cause global climate change. 20% of all greenhouse gas emissions come from the burning and clearning of forests, yet forests are cleared at about a rate of one acre per second.
